As I sit down to pen my thoughts about my recent adventure to Mexico, I can't help but feel a rush of excitement and gratitude for the incredible experiences I've had. As a solo woman traveler with a deep love for the mysteries of the Mayan culture, this trip was nothing short of enchanting.
My fascination with the Mayan civilization traces back to my early 20s when I ventured to Honduras and became Open Water certified. That experience opened up a whole new world underwater, sparking a curiosity for ancient civilizations and their stories. So, when the opportunity arose to explore Mexico and its rich Mayan heritage, I seized it eagerly..
One of the highlights of my journey was visiting the awe-inspiring #ChichenItza.
This ancient Mayan city, designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, stands as a testament to the ingenuity and architectural brilliance of its creators. The towering El Castillo, also known as the Temple of #Kukulcan, with its precise alignment to the equinoxes, is a marvel to behold. It's fascinating to ponder the astronomical knowledge possessed by the #Mayans, evident in the design of this magnificent structure.
Highlights
Swimming in a cenote was another unforgettable experience. These natural sinkholes, scattered throughout the #Yucatan Peninsula, hold a special significance in Mayan culture, often regarded as sacred portals to the underworld. Immersing myself in the crystal-clear waters of a cenote was not just a refreshing dip but also a spiritual journey, connecting me to the ancient beliefs and rituals of the Mayan people.

The Mayans were skilled astronomers who developed a complex calendar system. They accurately tracked celestial movements, including the cycles of the sun, moon, and planets. But perhaps the most magical moment of my trip was encountering a Hawksbill turtle during a #diving expedition. As I descended into the depths of the ocean, surrounded by vibrant coral reefs teeming with life, I felt a sense of wonder and reverence for the marine world. And when the graceful turtle gracefully glided past, as if welcoming me into its realm, I was filled with awe and gratitude for this extraordinary encounter.
